Weighted averages: V6s are in uninspiring/uninteresting cars at a much higher rate than I6s at this point in time. However, as this is not really the case for I5s, and I5s just by being different add the only dashes of interesting to the cars they appear in, that's a fail.

I disagree. For every great BMW/Toyota/Whatever I6, there's an equally awful AMC/Jeep I6 in existence. I have no bias against the I6 (I own a car with one and it's delightful), but lolz homie ain't no Busso.

The AMC/Jeep I6s are *supposed* to be weighted well. It's not supposed to be just a metric of traditional awesome, but impressive nontraditional awesome. If you owned an AMC in the 70s, it might not have been cool, but it's cool *now* because it's odd, quirky, in a word - Jalop. AMC/old Jeep I6s are, for the purposes of this meter, counted on the plus side of I6s rather than the negative, leaving pretty much only modern Jeeps and some others to contempt it.

There are far more competent and interesting V6s than there are I6s these days.

Key - these days. I'd agree V6s need reweighting a bit, but it's not about currently available I6/V6. Not at all. There was a real lull in interesting V6s for quite a while, and the Jalopmeter still reflects that. It needs reweighting, but I don't see it surpassing I6 on pure platform/platform comparison. Although, many of the better I6s get points for vehicle age, etc.

Please see how the Jalopmeter weighs tiny engines through medium engines through large ones. Average is dull. Fail can be interesting and a character quality.

I just don't buy a scale where an AMC I6 outweighs a Busso V6. By all metrics, including those you've cited, the Busso wins; it's quirkier, it's better, it makes more power, it sounds better, and it fails more spectacularly!

I would say the VQ and the J-Series is proof that wonderful V6s exist. But the meter is definitely set up to bias towards certain cars.

It gets points on the HP scale, the nationality scale, and on the fueling, n'est-ce pas? Maybe there should be a valvetrain modifying table. The pure V6/I6, if corrected just on that one compro would leave an arbitrary Camry engine within spit of a BMW M, and we can't have that.

shut your dirty mouth. The I6 in a jeep is one of the most awesome engines ever designed for a purpose. I can not think of a better engine for a jeep except for maaaybe a diesel.

Hahhaha, When I test drove the H3, it was great. MPG was comparible to V6's in similar size trucks, handled well, was sluggish but felt torque-y and powerful like an SUV should.

Only downside? Can't see a fucking thing out of it.

Haha, fair enough. I really did enjoy it, just wasn't practical enough for daily usage. It was going to be my wife's too and for how big it is, feels kinda small inside.

She went with the Jeep Commander instead.

The BMW 6 is really rather good, but it's not the wanton hedonist that the Alfa 6 is.

Durable, reliable, incredibly easy to work on, has incredible torque for what it is, at the low end where it is perfect for a jeep. It starts up easy, heats up fast, holds heat in the winter, refuses to die with most types of neglect, and parts are cheap when you decide to replace them. Also, it can be fun at the times when I decide to put my foot down, and can get the back end around. I don't know what more you could ask out of an engine in a mid/lower end SUV.

What about if I own an F40/50? It's not a unibody, it's a monocoque type construction so it should be like a bajillion points. Plus -20 for unibody is just dumb. Just about every modern car is unibody.. even the miata and the BRZ thing
